Authentic Assessment And Performance Based Assessment Essay

Authentic assessment is also referred to as classroom assessment, alternative assessment and performance based assessment. An authentic assessment is a form of assessment in which students are asked to perform real-world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills. Or, as Grant Wiggins (1993) describes it, authentic measures are â€Å"engaging and worthy problems or questions of importance, in which students must use knowledge to fashion performances effectively and creatively.† In other words, students learn how to effectively apply their skills to authentic tasks and projects. Authentic assessment does not encourage rote learning and passive test-taking. Instead, it focuses on students analytical skills; ability to integrate what they learn; creativity; ability to work collaboratively; and written and oral expression skills. It values the learning process as much as the finished product. Assessment becomes even more relevant when students become involved in the tasks pertaining to their own assessment. Students taking an active role in developing the scoring criteria, self-evaluation, and goal setting, more readily accept that the assessment is adequately measuring their individual learning. Answer: Introduction Most of the times when people come together misunderstanding issues arise between the employees and the manager in the firm. One of the challenges that I will address is the miscommunication that leads to frustrations. Miscommunication comes when although there is adequate communication there is no agreement. Effective communication requires that everyone involved must agree to the information communicated as well as everyone understands it. One may think that what he is communicating is by other people views, but it may be opposite of their expectations. Real Business Issue that the Group is addressing. The miscommunication causes disappointment as well as frustrations to the juniors as the communication is contrary to their expectation. At times, a person may expect that they will get answers to their queries, but you give out totally contradicting information. It may lead to confusion of the employees in the business, which will affect the productivity of the firm (Austin Pinkleton, 2015). Sometimes miscommunication in the industry may give rise to the staff workers doing similar work as one thinks that the other person different works. By doing similar works, there will be some of the unfinished work pulling down the business. Miss communication may also lead to people doing similar projects in the enterprise hence dropping one down causing frustration as well as wastage of resources such as time. It happens because one thinks that one is doing a different thing and you thought that they are also doing a very different thing. Therefore, in communication one should not assume things one should on what the co-worker is doing to avoid having similar projects among other problems. Communication model Apart from the Berlioz communication model, there are other types of communication such as the Schramms model of communication. The model is a modification of the Shannon Weavers model, which is psychological, but the modification is mathematical as well as technological. The communication model that we used in the business is the Schramm's communication model because it is the most efficient model between two people. The model will efficiently solve the problem of miscommunication as it enhances communication between two people. In this model, the background of the individual is very essential (Ferraro Brody 2015). People have different cultures and may have the different understanding of the message been communicated which may affect the communication process. The model exhibits communication as a process, which is not ending and involves words as well as feedback. In a model, everyone involved is a sender and receiver thus everyone involved needs to understand the message for eff ective communication. Because this model includes the background among other elements in addition to the sender and receiver, it is not conventional as the other models. The model also considers feedback which is an essential factor as it helps the person sending the message you know whether the receiver has understood it. One will not achieve Communication if the receiver does not understand the message as one gets information that is opposite to one's expectations. This model proposes that the field of experience is also one of the elements that affect the understanding as well, as for how one interprets the message. In the area of experience, one must consider the people's culture, social background. Experiences as well as ones beliefs. The factors influence how one interprets an individual message and may lead to various interpretation among the people who are communicating (Ferraro Brody 2015). For instance, when a person from another culture usually eats with the spoon and goes to a culture where the instructor asks him not to use the spoon he or she may feel upset. One may consider this because he deems it impolite if he does not understand the culture of the locality. Hence, for efficient communication, there is need to understand the culture of the area as it changes how one interprets the information (McQuail Windahl 2015). The model proposes the barriers to this communication including the context of the two people communicating. In communication, the two individuals who are talking must have a common goal and talk about similar issues. The communication is also excellent if the relationship is too close. For instance when talking with archaic friends, one will have so much to talk to than when one is doing it with a person you are not acquainted with. The use of metaphor is also another barrier of communication that the designers of this model propose (McQuail Windahl 2015). The metaphors are from one's experiences, for example, one may relate the ocean or waters with blue colour.it is important for the two people communicating to understand the metaphors that each one is using for efficient communication. The benefit of this model is that it is dynamic. Hence, it is appropriate to use in the as changing environment. Another advantage of the model is that both sender and the receiver play an active role in the communication process. In this model, the two people interchange their roles in the communication process hence they achieve effective communication. The inclusion of semantic noise in this model is also beneficial as it helps one in knowing the challenges that can create the barrier to effective communication. Feedback, which is also a part of this model, is of the advantage as it eases one's knowledge on whether the intended communication is effective. However, the disadvantage of this model is that it cannot involve more than two sources hence difficult to use in a complex organisation. As such, the model is only applicable to most businesses where there is a problem of miscommunication between two people in the group as seen in our real business challenge (Austin Pinkleton, 2015). Solution to the problem of Miscommunication Several problems occur in the body because of those miscommunications. Therefore, there is a need to improve communication process by doing the following. One of the ways is by meeting the expectations of every client. With these, one can build a lot of trusts as well as increase the workers productivity. There is need to pay a lot of attention to what each and everyone is saying. When one considers the other people's suggestions there is minimal miscommunication. Another solution is taking responsibility by listening to what the other person says. Communication, as seen in scrams model, is supposed to be active between the receiver and the sender and they should exchange their roles. Another solution is considering the nonverbal cues such as facial expressions and gestures to know whether the person has clearly understood the message (Ferraro Brody 2015). Conclusion In conclusion, the use of the screamer model, which makes communication between two people smooth, will help in reducing the problem of miscommunication in the organisation. The problem of miscommunication may cause several hiccups in society, for instance, presenting similar projects, and one has to be cancelled, leaving some of the work undone because both workers are focusing on the same task among others. The Driving Way Selecting a career path is the easiest decision one can make; I have chosen five in the nine years since high school. The problem is selecting a path and following it to completion. When I returned to school for my most recent career path, I worked hard and did well for the first several months. Then, I started staying out late with a young lady, and the amount of time that I applied to school decreased by an order of magnitude. After several weeks with her, it was apparent that my grades were going to be bad. I told my father that I was not doing well in school, and that I was going to quit school to work full time again. He surprised me when he replied, Do you remember the first time that I let you drive? Although I vaguely remembered the event, I said, Of course I do. Father then ask, Do you still drive as poorly as you did that day? Sensing one of the old man's long-winded speeches about to start, I harshly said, No, what's your point? After my abrasive reply, Father shook his head and started reading a book. Although I did not want to hear his speech, I could not keep from wondering what he wanted to say. I thought about the Saturday morning that my father let me drive for the first time. He drove me to a stretch of road so long and straight that you could see it converge in the horizon. He pulled over and told me to swap seats with him. Despite being nervous, I wasted no time getting behind the wheel. Timidly, I put the car in drive and pulled into the road. Father then said, All that you have to do is point it straight and keep it between the lines. With father's advice about driving in mind, I carefully lined the car between the lines and headed down the road. I did well for the first several minutes. Then, my mind wandered, and I started paying less attention to the road. In a few seconds, I felt a thump and heard the car hit gravel. I overreacted and jerked the wheel; the car slid sideways, and suddenly we stopped. I was sure that my father was going to yell about my poor driving, but he quietly said, Son, let me clarify my advice to you. It is not only about starting in the right direction and then forgetting what you are doing. It is about always paying attention to where you are and where you want to be. It is about making subtle corrections; if a correction is to big, it will always send you out of control. After I pondered the old man's driving advice, I decided not to quit school. I stopped seeing the young lady, and dropped two classeswhich left time for me to concentrate on my remaining classes. Because of the correction, I finished the semester on the dean's list. The changes that could be made if a new leader was brought into this beautiful country are they would be freed and live normal lives. The Dalai Lama now doesnt seem to want to be free from China. Another thing that could change is that millions upon millions could have their lives saved. A new leader should be brought into office because the way the present leader is running the country. The Dalai Lama promised many changes that would be made such as, Commencement of earnest negotiations on the future status of Tibet and of relations between the Tibetan and Chinese people. notice how this hasnt happened yet. The Tibetans are suffering more by each month that passes. After these changes are made the suffering could have a chance to stop. The Dalai Lama doesnt want change because his life is great, but for the other millions in the country, it is a horrible life.

Biography of Polycarp, Christian Bishop and Martyr Polycarp (60-155 CE), also known as Saint Polycarp, was a Christian bishop of Smyrna, the modern city of Izmir in Turkey. He was an Apostolic father, meaning he was a student of one of the original disciples of Christ; and he was known to other important figures in the early Christian church, including Irenaeus, who knew him as a youth, and Ignatius of Antioch, his colleague in the Eastern Catholic church. His surviving works include a Letter to the Philippians, in which he quotes the Apostle Paul, some of which quotes appear in the books of the New Testament and the Apocrypha. Polycarps letter has been used by scholars to identify Paul as the probable writer of those books. Polycarp was tried and executed as a criminal by the Roman empire in 155 C.E., becoming the 12th Christian martyr in Smyrna; the documentation of his martyrdom is an important document in the history of the Christian church. Birth, Education, and Career Polycarp was likely born in Turkey, about 69 C.E. He was a student of the obscure disciple John the Presbyter, sometimes considered to be the same as John the Divine. If John the Presbyter was a separate apostle, he is credited with writing the book of Revelations. As Bishop of Smyrna, Polycarp was a father figure and mentor to Irenaeus of Lyons (ca 120–202 C.E.), who heard his preachings and mentioned him in several writings. Polycarp was a subject of the historian Eusebius (ca 260/265–ca 339/340 C.E.), who wrote about his martyrdom and connections with John. Eusebius is the earliest source separating out John the Presbyter from John the Divine. Irenaeus Letter to the Smyrneans is one of the sources recounting Polycarps martyrdom. Martyrdom of Polycarp The Martyrdom of Polycarp or Martyrium Polycarpi in Greek and abbreviated MPol in the literature, is one of the earliest examples of the martyrdom genre, documents which recount the history and legends surrounding a particular Christian saints arrest and execution. The date of the original story is unknown; the earliest extant version was composed in the early 3rd century. Polycarp was 86 years old when he died, an old man by any standard, and he was the bishop of Smyrna. He was considered a criminal by the Roman state because he was a Christian. He was arrested at a farmhouse and taken to the Roman amphitheater in Smyrna where he was burned and then stabbed to death. Mythic Events of the Martyrdom Supernatural events described in MPol include a dream Polycarp had that he would die in flames (rather than being torn apart by lions), a dream that MPol says was fulfilled. A disembodied voice emanating from the arena as he entered entreated Polycarp to be strong and show yourself a man. When the fire was lit, the flames did not touch his body, and the executioner had to stab him; Polycarps blood gushed out and put out the flames. Finally, when his body was found in the ashes, it was said to have not been roasted but rather baked as bread; and a sweet aroma of frankincense was said to have arisen from the pyre. Some early translations say a dove rose out of the pyre, but there is some debate about the accuracy of the translation. With the MPol and other examples of the genre, martyrdom was being shaped into a highly public sacrificial liturgy: in Christian theology, the Christians were Gods choice for martyrdom who were trained for the sacrifice. Martyrdom as Sacrifice In the Roman empire, criminal trials and executions were highly structured spectacles that dramatized the power of the state. They attracted mobs of people to see the state and criminal square off in a battle that the state was supposed to win. Those spectacles were intended to impress on the minds of the spectators how powerful the Roman Empire was, and what a bad idea it was to attempt to go against them. By turning a criminal case into a martyrdom, the early Christian church emphasized the brutality of the Roman world, and explicitly converted the execution of a criminal into a sacrifice of a holy person. The MPol reports that Polycarp and the writer of the MPol considered Polycarps death a sacrifice to his god in the Old Testament sense. He was bound like a ram taken out of a flock for sacrifice and made an acceptable burnt-offering unto God. Polycarp prayed that he was happy to have been found worthy to be counted among the martyrs, I am a fat and acceptable sacrifice. Epistle of St. Polycarp to the Philippians The only surviving document known to have been written by Polycarp was a letter (or perhaps two letters) he wrote to the Christians at Philippi. It was a frightening possibility that I might find what it was and how to do it: the frightening thing was that I might then have to do it, as if discovery was actual commission of the sin. The verse in St. Mark (3:19) contained as much potential horror as anything I have ever read...so when I read "Ethan Brand" I knew where he was....(179). Wind and water are, first and foremost, natural elements (two of the five elements that comprise all of nature). Again, adjustments are usually easy and cost effective. Carved into a cliff face 300 feet above the Royal Road of the Achaemenids, the text was not legible to the passersby, although the images of Gautama being subjected certainly were. Darius saw that the cuneiform text was widely circulated throughout the Persian Empire. In the Behistun Inscription, Darius explains why he has the right to rule. He says he has the Zoroastrian god Ahura Mazda on his side. He claims royal blood lineage through four generations to the eponymous Achaemenes, the father of Teispes, who was the great-grandfather of Cyrus. Darius says his own father was Hystaspes, whose father was Arsanes, whose father was Ariamnes, a son of this Teispes. Notable Accomplishments Darius expanded the Persian empire from the Sakas beyond Sogdiana to the Kush, and from Sind to Sardis. He also refined and expanded the Persian satrapy form of administrative rule, dividing his empire into 20 pieces and providing each piece an authority (generally a relative) to rule over them, and placing additional security measures to reduce revolt. Darius moved the Persian capital from Pasagardae to Persepolis, where he had built a palace and a treasury, where the enormous wealth of the Persian empire would be safely stored for 200 years, only to be looted by Alexander the Great in 330 BCE. He constructed the Royal Road of the Achaemenids from Susa to Sardis, connecting the far-flung satrapies and building staffed way stations so no one had to ride more than a day to deliver the post. Some options include fries or onion rings, cheese, bacon, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion. The customer can pick any mixture of these options that they wish. Burger King takes customer orders on a continual basis. One employee takes the customers order, the customer then moves down the line where another employee is preparing the order. Meanwhile, the original employee is taking another customers order. Customers also get their own drinks while they are waiting for their meal. This makes service much faster because employees do not have to prepare drinks. They also provided relaxing music for customers to listen to while dining. One of the best ways to explain it is Burger King has always found outlets where there is a large attention of people but that wasnt there only strategy because they also had the great idea of going head-to-head with McDonald across the street. However, in modern days, there is probably nothing as important as having good human relationships in the workplace. Whether one is a chief executive officer, a consultant, a manager or team member, achieving results requires a productive working relationship with others. As such, having positive and sustainable human relationships is the bedrock for business effectiveness. According to Goleman,  ¡Ã‚ §Emotional Quotient (EQ) defines our capacity for relationship (Goldmen 1995) ¡Ã‚ ¨ and added,  ¡Ã‚ §Rational intelligence only contributes about 20% to the factors that determine success in life.
